Kontera Wordpress Plugin Video

<!-- if (!document.phpAds_used) document.phpAds_used = ','; phpAds_random = new String (Math.random()); phpAds_random = phpAds_random.substring(2,11); document.write (""); //-->

I’ve received a few emails asking how to install the Kontera context link code on a Wordpress blog. With Kontera offering 100% revenue share this month to John Chow dot Com readers, the number of sign ups have been higher than normal, and so has the number of questions on how to integrate it into your blog.

The easiest way to add Kontera Content Link to a Wordpress blog is with the official Kontera-Wordpress plugin. This easy to install plugin will take the dirty work out of adding the Kontera ad codes. Simply upload to your Wordpress plugins folder and activate. Then, it’s just a matter of setting a few options and you’re ready to rock. Kontera even made this little tutorial video for those who need a little extra hand holding.

In addition to Wordpress, Kontera also has plugins for Blogger, Durpal and Joomla. The 100% revenue share for the month of July is still going on right now. If you haven’t sign up for Kontera yet, now would be a great time to do so and take advantage of that 100% income stream.

Shoemoney Tools Preview

<!-- if (!document.phpAds_used) document.phpAds_used = ','; phpAds_random = new String (Math.random()); phpAds_random = phpAds_random.substring(2,11); document.write (""); //-->

Shoemoney has put up a video of his new Shoemoney Tools. Shoe talked a bit about the tools during the Top Affiliate Affiliate Challenge. However, this video explains it more in depth and gives you a pretty good idea on what it does.

At the Top Affiliate Affiliate Challenge, Shoe said the tools would be available for $250 per month. That’s not cheap by any means. This is definitely a high end tool for high end users. Anyway, check out the video and see if you think it’s worth the price Shoe will be asking for it. I should note that Shoe told me the price is not set in stone and chances are good that the first round of customers will get it for a lot less than $250 per month.

10 Reasons You Are Not A Successful Entrepreneur

<!-- if (!document.phpAds_used) document.phpAds_used = ','; phpAds_random = new String (Math.random()); phpAds_random = phpAds_random.substring(2,11); document.write (""); //-->

My buddy Neil Patel has made a post call 10 Reasons You Are Not A Successful Entrepreneur that is well worth a read for anyone considering going into business for themselves. For those who don’t know, I profiled Neil a while back in a profile of success post.

At only 21 years old, Neil is one of the most successful entrepreneurs I’ve ever met. Neil is the CTO of Advantage Consulting Services, a company that he co-founded in 2003. ACS works with 22 of the other Top 100 Technorati blogs and made $2.5 million last year. Neil is also the co-founder of Crazy Egg, one of the best visual visitor tracking tools on the Net.

In his post, Neil goes over the top 10 reason why you’re not a successful entrepreneur and many of them resonated with me. I especially related to the number one point; you don’t know how to manage money. Whenever I’ve come across unsuccessful people, a common trait is none of them knows how to manage their money. And that’s really too bad because good money management can be learned. You don’t need to be born with it.

Two other points I strongly agree with is, “You don’t network with others” and “You aren’t aggressive enough.” Very few people are successful all by themselves. Networking and relationship is extremely important if you want to succeed in this world. While some people are put off by aggressiveness, you have to be aggressive to get what you want.

Anyways, I don’t want to end up stealing Neil’s entire post, so just head on over there and check it out for yourself. You’ll be glad you did.

WordCamp Fraser Valley

<!-- if (!document.phpAds_used) document.phpAds_used = ','; phpAds_random = new String (Math.random()); phpAds_random = phpAds_random.substring(2,11); document.write (""); //-->

Last night was the first ever Wordpress Camp in the Fraser Valley and it was a roaring success. Over 80 Wordpress bloggers and wannabe Wordpress bloggers made it out to the Cascades Casino to listen to and discuss blogging with the Wordpress platform. The attendees range from complete newbies to experienced full time bloggers.

The speaker included Raul from Hummingbird 604, Rebecca Bollwitt from Miss604.com, Kulpreet Singh, Gary Jones from BlueFur.com and myself. The topics ranged from “Why I switch to Wordpress from Bloggers” to “Evil ways to get traffic to a Wordpress blog.”

This camp was much better organized than the last Wordpress Camp. There was more than enough room to accommodate everyone. A big thanks goes out to Gary for putting this together.

What I learned From The Top Affiliate Challenge

<!-- if (!document.phpAds_used) document.phpAds_used = ','; phpAds_random = new String (Math.random()); phpAds_random = phpAds_random.substring(2,11); document.write (""); //-->

Now that the Top Affiliate Challenge is over and the NDA has expired, I can give my views and thoughts on the two week competition that pitted affiliate marketers against each other. In no particular order, these are the observations I came up with.

TAC Is Not About Affiliate Marketing

The Top Affiliate Challenge is more about who can call in the most favors than it is about affiliate marketing. The show format pretty much prevent you from doing any true affiliate marketing. Instead of doing affiliate marketing from start to finish (testing out offers, making adjustments, etc), the winning teams merely transfer offers from their personal accounts to the team accounts. This created another problem.

You Can Buy The Win

The Top Affiliate Challenge is not a leveled playing field. The show heavily favors the contestant with experience and money to throw around. A contestant like Jon Ryan, who has no affiliate marketing experience or money to throw at the game, didn’t stand a chance. It doesn’t surprise me in the least that the winner of the game was also the person who spent the most money.

When I signed up as a TAC Guru, I was under the impression that each team would be given a budget and list of offers to work with. The team that made the most money with their budget would win. That was not the case. Instead, the rule was simply to make as much money possible using whatever means possible. That included using your own money to fund your offers. That to me was just plain stupid.

If TAC wishes to have a season 2, they will need to find a way to prevent the buying of a win. I wonder how many contestants would have audition for the show if they had known that they would need to put their own money into the show in order to have a chance at winning it?

The Show Was a Money Grab

From the first day, TAC seem like a money grab for the producers. The winner of the show got half the money generated from total affiliate commissions. The other half went to the producers. Team rankings were based on gross income only. Sure, it sounded great that Jonathan Van Clute was posting as much as $3,000 of affiliate income in a single day. However, he had to spend $2,000 to do that. Half the $3,000 went to the prize pool so Van Clute only got $1,500 back if he wins. Net result, he lost money. I was told Van Clute spent $26,000 of his own money to win the TAC. For that victory, he took home $19K, which was half the cash pool (he also got a two year car lease and a ring). The big winners were the owners of the show.

During the single two-day challenge where each of the remaining 8 contestants work by themselves, they were also asked to continue making income for the team. The six contestants with the highest earnings moved on. The last two were eliminated. Team results had no effect on who stays or who goes. Yet, the contestants were asked to continue to make money as a team. That made no sense to me. Why make money as team when elimination was based on individual performance? Collin LaHay, who was on my team, won the two-day challenge with over $1,600 in earnings. As a team, we produced zero. Team Pepperjam Network brought in over $5,000, which did nothing but added $2,500 to the producers’ pocket.

The Editing Team Sucks

If you’ve watched any of the episodes, you’ll no doubt notice the really bad editing. Things did improved as the show went on but there were still many mistakes being made. No doubt, many of the errors were caused by trying to produce a show on a 24 hour turnaround. That’s a really short time frame when you are using out dated tapes, instead of hard drive based videos, to do your show.

The Show Made Up The Rules As They Went Along

In the first episode, Monica stated that Gurus could not be eliminated from the show. However, by episode nine, I was eliminated for “losing too much.” In the confessional, the producer told me they kept a tally sheet on Guru wins and losses and that a Guru that lost too much would be eliminated. I don’t believe that for one second. I was told a week before the show started that the finals would be three contestants with the three Gurus. The show wrote me off because I was gaming their rules (or lack of rules) and basically making life a living hell for them.

Jonathan Van Clute Is a Really Nice Guy

The winner of the TAC, Jonathan Van Clute, is a super nice guy. I had a master plan in place to destroy him in the finals. You see, the winner of the Top Affiliate Challenge is not the person or team that produce the most income over the two week period. The winner is the person who produced the most income in the final challenge.

I devised an evil plan to take Collin LeHay to the final challenge against who we assume would be Jonathan Van Clute. We would coast through the competition and let the other team build up the prize pool without adding to it ourselves. Then we would win it all in the final challenge with the help of Paul from UberAffiliate.com. We knew the most Van Clute can produce is maybe $4,000 per day. That’s a lot of money but it’s not at the same level as the Uber one. Paul was ready to transfer up to $10,000 of campaigns over to our account. That would be more than enough to win. After paying Paul back his $10K, we would still make a nice profit thanks to Team Pepperjam’s building of the prize pool.

At the end of the day, Collin and I just didn’t have the heart to pull the trigger on the master plan. Jonathan Van Clute is one of the most amazing person I have ever met. He is completely open and willing to share his knowledge. He showed me how he got his traffic, how he runs his offers and a bunch of other secret stuff. After being so open with me and sharing so much, I would have felt really bad to blind side him in the finals.

Jonathan Van Clute invested the most in the Top Affiliate Challenge. He deserves the win.

Wordpress 2.6 Available for Download

<!-- if (!document.phpAds_used) document.phpAds_used = ','; phpAds_random = new String (Math.random()); phpAds_random = phpAds_random.substring(2,11); document.write (""); //-->

If you logged into your Wordpress control panel yesterday, you may have noticed a blinking text alerting you that Wordpress 2.6 was available for download.

The new Version, codename “Tyner,” for jazz pianist McCoy Tyner, contains a number of new features that make WordPress the best blogging software on the Net. You can now track changes to every post and page and easily post from wherever you are on the web, plus there are dozens of incremental improvements to the features introduced in version 2.5.

Wordpress has prepared a brief video tour of 2.6. If you have 3 minutes and 29 seconds to spare, it’s worth a watch. My upgrade to 2.6 went smoothly and without a hitch.

A Visit To The Shoeplex

<!-- if (!document.phpAds_used) document.phpAds_used = ','; phpAds_random = new String (Math.random()); phpAds_random = phpAds_random.substring(2,11); document.write (""); //-->

During my last day at the Top Affiliate Challenge, I had a chance to take a ride in Shoemoney’s Hummer and visit his new office. A lot readers on Shoe’s blog has been asking for photos or videos of the new Shoeplex and I’m happy to say I am the first to get it.

The Shoemoney office reminded me a lot of my old office. I used to operated out of a commercial space. However, after my landlord kicked me out because he thought I was a drug dealer, I decided to set my new office back home and has never looked back. Shoe on the other hand, is trying his luck at looking like a “normal” business by moving to a commercial location.

Since the office is only a few blocks from Shoe’s house, we also stop by the Shoemoney home to check out the famous Shoemoney pool. Enjoy!

One Deal a Day for the UK

<!-- if (!document.phpAds_used) document.phpAds_used = ','; phpAds_random = new String (Math.random()); phpAds_random = phpAds_random.substring(2,11); document.write (""); //-->

The Internet is a great place for all the bargain hunters out there, because you can virtually visit every shop on the block without leaving the comfort of your living room. Every so often, you come across a deal that you simply cannot pass up.

There is (at least) one other website out there that operates on a similar model as Grabitnow.com, but Grabitnow.com could be the first to cater to the UK market. That’s because Grabitnow.com was designed exclusively for the UK market. For the sake of the people behind that shopping site, I hope John Chow dot Com gets enough British visitors to warrant the cost of this review.

Only One Item Every Day

The concept behind Grabitnow.com is pretty much the same as that other site that sounds like someone exclaiming their joy. The critical difference, as mentioned above, is that the other site will not ship to the United Kingdom.

With Grabitnow.com, you are offered one hot deal each and every day. They sell a limited stock of this single new item for a period of 24 hours. If the product gets sold out before those 24 hours run out, then you’re pretty much out of luck. Grabitnow.com will not sell that item again.

Your savings will vary from product to product, but there’s a good chance that the Grabitnow.com price is the best price that you’ll be able to find online. They even do a little shopping around for you to compare the price against popular online stores like Amazon. Also remember that shipping (packing and postage) is free with Grabitnow.com.

What Can I Buy Today?

To get a sense of what kinds of products are available through Grabitnow.com, you can check out the page dedicated to previous deals. There, you’ll find a listing of the items sold in the last 14 days.

You’ve got mosquito repellers, wireless headphones, digital cameras, MP4 players, RC helicopters, and more. At first, I thought that Grabitnow.com mainly sold electronics, but scanning through the previous deals page, I discovered things like paddling pools, dominoes, and kitchen utensil sets too. You really never know what to expect.

Updates and Footer

Because these items are only offered on a 24-hour basis, you probably want to stay on top of what the hot deal is each day. You can do this a couple of different ways. There is a Facebook group and email updates. There are some other things in the works as well, and I’ll get to those in a moment.

It could be just me, but the footer to Grabitnow.com looks almost like a series of 125 ads, rather than sections to the existing website. This could be because 125×125 ad boxes are getting so popular these days that I am given this impression. I don’t think I’m alone in this thinking.

The Buying Process

Purchasing a product is a three-step process. After deciding that you want to buy today’s offer, you first click on the “buy it now” button next to the product price. This will direct you to the order page where it confirms your total cost. Note that there can only be one order, per household, per day.

On the next page, you either log into your existing Grabitnow.com account or create a new one. To create a new account, they require your name, email address, and password. The email address is not confirmed in any way (as far as I can tell).

On the last page, you fill out your billing address and delivery address, as well as provide your payment details. Payment can be accepted via Credit Card (Visa, Mastercard, Switch/Maestro, or Solo) or via PayPal. Items are typically shipped within 24 hours. Remember, this is UK-only.

Features Coming Soon

By all accounts, it looks like Grabitnow.com could have themselves a winning formula, offering the “one deal per day” model to the people of the United Kingdom. In terms of future developments, they hope to implement an affiliate program, Twitter integration, RSS feed, and “more cool products.”

Grabitnow.com may not be terribly unique, but they’ve got a good foundation. Now Londoners can save a few bucks online too.

Top 100 Web Celebrities

<!-- if (!document.phpAds_used) document.phpAds_used = ','; phpAds_random = new String (Math.random()); phpAds_random = phpAds_random.substring(2,11); document.write (""); //-->

Tech Cult has came up with a list of the Top 100 Web Celebrities. I’m a bit shocked to find myself on the list. I’m even more shocked to find that I’m ahead of a lot of people who are more famous than me.

Tech Cult has me ranked at number 49, ahead of famous bloggers like Darren Rowse (#75), Steve Pavlina (#81) and Wordpress co-founder Matt Mullenweg (#76). Hell, I’m an even bigger web celebrity than David Filo of Yahoo and Steve Chen of YouTube! Surprisingly, Shoemoney is not on the list. How did Tech Cult compiled this list?

We gathered around 200 potential names and queried them on Google to see how many results they would generate. Some minor adjustments were made, and the 100 names with the highest number of results were profiled (as you can see it is not our fault that Chris Crocker ended at the 6th position!)

Celebrities that became famous prior to the explosion of the Web were not included. Hence you will not find the likes of Steve Jobs or Bill Gates, despite our acknowledge that they are also influencing the Internet.

It’s pretty obvious that lists like these are pure linkbait. However, as you can see, we always fall for them. You can check out the list of the Internet’s top 100 web celebrities here.
